Experience the timeless serenity of traditional Japanese tea culture during a private tea ceremony in the beautiful Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan’s most celebrated landscape gardens. This tea tradition has been passed down through generations and is now led by a tea master who runs the family business and personally guides the ceremony courses.
During this intimate experience, you’ll be introduced to the art of tea preparation inside a quiet teahouse, surrounded by lush greenery, gentle streams and carefully crafted garden features. Your tea master will demonstrate the intricate rituals of the ceremony and invite you to savour the delicate taste of matcha while learning about the history and philosophy behind this centuries-old practice.
The peaceful ambience of the garden, combined with the meditative rhythm of the ceremony, creates an unforgettable moment of calm and contemplation.

Kenrokuen Garden was originally created during the Edo period as a private garden for the Maeda family, making it a place of significant historical importance.
The name “Kenrokuen” means “Garden of Six Qualities”, referring to the ideal combination of spaciousness, seclusion, artistry, antiquity, water features and sweeping views – elements that represent perfection in a traditional Japanese garden.
Kenrokuen is renowned for its stunning seasonal displays, from spring cherry blossoms to vivid autumn foliage. Its ever-changing landscape provides a beautiful backdrop for the tea ceremony and creates a year-round connection between nature and tradition.
The Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu) is a highly choreographed ritual centred on the preparation and enjoyment of powdered green tea (matcha). It emphasises aesthetics, etiquette and appreciation of fleeting moments, fostering a deep connection between host, guests and the natural world.
Matcha – the star of the ceremony – is not only delicious but also rich in antioxidants. It supports metabolism, enhances mood and improves concentration, making it a boost for wellbeing.
